Refusing to accept mediocrity and refusing to tolerate the average. Excellence is the quality of being outstanding.
I was having breakfast this morning at a local Italian deli and was just blown away with how authentic, honest and delicious the food was. Put simply it was spectacular.
Which reminded me of the fact that there really are pockets of excellence around us – we just need to look hard enough to find them.
It also got me thinking about the fact that even with these pockets of excellence around us, we still choose to accept mediocrity in our lives.
Whether that be in the products and services we buy, the people we surround ourselves with or the behaviours we tolerate from those around us.
Excellence to me is about striving to be best in class. Refusing to accept mediocrity and refusing to tolerate the average. Excellence is the quality of being outstanding.
Stanford University describes it as “getting better, developing, growing, improving, and giving it your all every day”.
Robin Sharma talks about shifting from the ordinary to the extraordinary and “walking amongst the best”. (http://www.robinsharma.com/blog/07/walk-amongst-the-best/)
I was reminded by a colleague this last week that it also means swimming against the tide and believing that one person can change the behaviours of an entire organisation, no matter how hard that might be or how large that organisation might be.
So to that end, today I choose to surround myself with excellence over mediocrity.
The good thing is I have already started so thanks to @theconsultant2, @_robin_sharma, #quinmorris and Sophia’s Gourmet in Clayfield for the best breakfast ever.
