My thoughts on work-life balance and keeping everyone happy.
I am not sure about you, but my life these days is pretty busy. The demands of my family, my job/s, my personal needs and the needs of everyone around me make for a pretty full schedule each day.
And the truth is, you never really manage to meet the demands and expectations of others on your time.
So what is the answer? My current thinking is it has a lot to do with laying out my priorities and focussing my time there.
My priorities for 2015 are to increase my productivity, reduce my levels of stress, build a more successful business and have more fun.
All of these priorities have associated strategies and action plans, and every now and again I re-visit this list to keep me on the “straight and narrow”.
So what can you be doing about your priorities?
- Think about those things that really matter to you. Those things that are truly important and not just urgent.
- Make those things the priority in your life. @marissamayer talks about “ruthlessly prioritizing” so be prepared to ruffle a few feathers sometimes when your priorities don’t line up with others.
- Don’t slip back into old habits. Keep reminding yourself of what really matters and prioritise those things.
A wise lady once told me “Saying no to others might allow you to say yes to your priorities”.
