If being more productive (and more successful) is more about working smarter and not harder, what are the two changes I can make today to get me there.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. Not just in terms of my time management but also in terms of keeping my motivation levels up.
And rather than trying to come up with a list of the top ten things I need to be doing differently, I came up with two things I could really focus in on.
- Beware of distractions – for me distractions can come in many shapes and form. Email, checking news feeds, twitter feeds, Facebook, getting caught up in conversations that go round and round or simply worrying about catering for other peoples needs.
I most probably burn a few hours everyday on distractions, which only keep me from doing the things that make me happy, or doing the things that are going to drive more meaningful value in my life.
- Prioritise, prioritise, prioritise – this is something I speak about a lot and something that I believe very passionately in, however, if I allow myself to get caught up with distractions, I am probably not living that value very well.
To remind myself again – at the beginning of each day spend 10 minutes mapping out those things you want to achieve, and prioritise those activities until they are done.
And remember that one of the things that make successful people successful is their ability to ruthlessly prioritise.
